The Fenmen entertain Cambs League opposition for the second time this season when they take on Cambridge University Press in the Cambs Invitation Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm).
This visitors reached this stage of the competition with a 2-1 win at Parson Drove last month, while Wisbech saw off the challenge of West Wratting at Fountain Fresh Park.
Cambridge University Press are eighth in the Cambs League Premier Division having played fewer games than most of their rivals. Their two league defeats have both been at the hands of unbeaten leaders Great Shelford. They finished third in the league last season.
They play at the Cass Centre and, formed in 1893, are older than both Cambridge Utd and Cambridge City.
Recent Club History
Having spent most of their history in the Cambs League, Cambridge University Press moved to the Eastern Counties League in 2011 and played home games at Histon’s Bridge Road ground as they were unable to erect floodlights at the Cass Centre.
Despite winning the ECL Division One in 2012/13, the club left the league in order to go back to the Cass Centre, returning to the Premier Division of the Cambridgeshire League. In 2014/15 they finished second from bottom and were relegated to the Senior A Division. The 2016/17 season saw them finish as runners-up in the division, resulting in promotion back to the top division.
In 2021/22 they won the Premier Division Cup, beating Eaton Socon 4–2 on penalties after a 3–3 draw in which they recovered from being 3–0 down in the 87th minute.
