Godmanchester Rovers, who the Fenmen travel to meet in the FA Vase on Saturday, have a pretty good recent record in the competition.
The highpoint came in 2018/19 when they battled through to the fourth round where, before a record crowd of 252, they beat Sporting Kalsa 1-0, only to be disqualified for fielding an ineligible player.
Last year they defeated Thetford and Walsham le Willows before losing 2-1 to Benfleet in the first round proper.
Godmanchester, a town situated just to the south of Huntingdon, play in the United Counties League Premier Division South and are mid-table after four league games, having won two and lost two. They lost 5-3 to Lakenheath in an FA Cup replay having drawn the first game 2-2.
Nicknamed Goddy, the team are managed by Dean Greygoose, who played more than 200 times in goal for Crewe Alexandra in the Football League during a lengthy career which included a number of senior non-league clubs.
Greygoose is an experienced manager having led Team Bury, Haverhill Rovers, Mildenhall Town and Eynesbury Rovers before taking over at Goddy in December 2020. He is also head of academy goalkeeping at Cambridge Utd.
The club made a number of new signings in the summer including experienced striker Marley Hamilton, who has played for several clubs at a higher level.
Club History
Goddy were established in 1911 and played in the Huntingdonshire League for many years before joining the Cambridgeshire League.
With the club about to move into their new ground at Bearscroft Lane, they made a successful application to join the Eastern Counties League in 2002.They finished bottom of the division in 2004/05 but were not relegated as the league was understrength.
Things improved and in 2011/12 they won Division One on goal difference to earn promotion and also won the Division One KO Cup. The club finished runners-up in the Premier Division and won the Hunts Senior Cup in 2014/15 before once again finishing league runners-up the following season.
In 2018–19 Goddy won Hunts Senior Cup for a second time, beating St Neots 6-0 in the final, and also the Hinchingbrooke Cup, defeating Pinchbeck Utd 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw.
At the end of the 2020/21 season they were transferred to the UCL Premier Division South.
Goddy repeated their Hinchingbrooke Cup success in May, beating Stotfold FC 1-0 in the final.
