FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round

Danny Brooks netted at the beginning and the end to give the Fenmen a thrilling cup victory against their closest rivals at Fountain Fresh Park this afternoon.
Wisbech deserved their win, fully committed, first to the ball and a 100% improvement on their midweek performance against Pinchbeck.
It took the home side just four minutes to open the scoring. Assistant manager Brooks found himself 30 yards from goal on the left and hit a screamer into the top right corner.
Wisbech dominated the opening 20 minutes and hard-working Toby Allen might have added to the score but the young goalkeeper made the save.
The Hares then had 20 minutes when they dominated play. Vitor Vaz equalised from close range then smacked the post with a powerful shot. If it had gone in it might have changed the game.
The Fenmen finished the half on top once again and dominated the second half against the flagging visitors, who seldom posed a threat. Rob Conyard, playing against his former club, restored the Fenmen’s lead when he cut in from the left and scored with a clever right-foot shot into the near corner.
The rest of the half was non-stop Wisbech pressure. They had two efforts disallowed for offside and went close on numerous occasions, but could not add a third which would have settled the match. Just one goal down, there was always the chance that March could grab an equaliser.
Added time drifted past 5pm when Wisbech were awarded a penalty and Brooks hammered the ball home.
It was an excellent performance by the Fenmen against an experienced March side who were not allowed to display their talents.
