Wisbech Town 1 - 3 Newport Pagnell Town

Home | 14 April 2018 | Attendance: 285
Wisbech Town’s hopes of lifting the United Counties League title were dealt a severe blow with defeat at the hands of close rivals Newport Pagnell Town.

The omens were not good - influential midfielder Adam Millson was missing his first game since early September, the last time the Fenmen lost in the league at home.

The visitors took control of the game with goals after 13 and 15 minutes, Fazel Koriya and Michael Lyon benefitting from some rather generous defending.

Manager Gary Setchell decided that a double change at half time was required, so Dan Bendon and Josh Davison replaced Luke Wilson and Richard Bunting but within two minutes of the restart Pagnell had a third goal. An attempted header back to keeper Paul Bastock went straight to Tom Liversedge instead and he couldn’t miss.

Liversedge’s afternoon was brought to an abrupt end a few minutes later as he was sent off for a stamp on Billy Smith.
Playing against ten men did allow Wisbech to create better chances but it wasn’t until the third minute of added time that the visitor’s goal was breached, Michael Frew scoring his 27th of the season, but by that time it was too little, too late.
