Match Report

Wisbech Town’s chances of winning the United Counties League title suffered a setback with a 2-1 defeat at seventh place Harborough Town.

New signing from Newmarket Town, Jamie Thurlbourne started at on the left but defensive stalwart Jamie Stevens was side-lined by an ear infection, alongside Danny Setchell who was unavailable.

Harborough took the lead in the 7th minute as Wisbech failed to deal with a free kick and Ben Williams scored from close range.
It took until the 25th minute for the Fenmen to finally get on the scoresheet. Michael Frew played in Dan Bendon in a central position and his early shot found the back of the net.

The home side scored what proved to be the winner just before the break, Aaron Preston shooting through a crowded box.

Wisbech never got going and it was Harborough who looked more likely to score in the second half. In the final few minutes, the Fenmen did fashion an opening after a good passing move but the normally reliable Alex Beck saw his shot from the edge of the box fly just over the crossbar.
