Wisbech Town reached the final of the Cambs Invitation Cup with a penalty shootout victory tonight in one of the best matches seen at Fountain Fresh Park this season.
The Fenmen's penalty kick heroes were Sam Murphy, maintaining his 100% spot kick record this season, Ethan Wilson, Andre Williams and goalkeeper Dan George, who had saved a penalty in the second half.
Wisbech were the better side in the first 30 minutes and deserved the lead when teenager Harley Murkin, deputising for the injured Toby Allen, took advantage of a blunder by visiting goalkeeper Sam Roach.
Murkin might have done better with another chance and Amir Ward struck the top of the bar with an effort from distance, but Histon worked their way into the game and it was no surprise when Connor Barnes hit a cracking shot from 30 yards following a miskick by Ward.
Histon had a great chance soon after the restart but George made an excellent save, diving to his right following a handball offence.
Ward eventually made it 2-1 for the home side but they could not hang on and Barnes equalised with his second goal.
Both sides might have won it in the dying minutes, Andre Williams hitting the inside of the post for Wisbech.
Murphy hit home the first penalty and George saved Histon's first kick. Wisbech led all the way and Histon finally lost out when their fourth kick was hit high over the bar.
Wisbech will meet Cambridge City in the final at Cambridge United's Abbey Road ground.
